My goal is to fight against xenophobia by interviewing artists and asking them what representation they have of their own country.
By confronting and comparing these answers and representations, I want to prove how complex one's identity can be, even when we think we know where we come from. The foundation of xenophobia, being the ignorance of one's own identity as well as the Other's, this should help people rethink some of their certainties.
I will focus on artists, because they constitute one of the few remaining trusted institutions of our globalized societies. Furthermore, their open-mindedness and creativity should enrich their answers and make them even more interesting and compelling for the readers.
With each artist, I will tape the interview, film the view from his window, as a metaphor of his perspective on the world, and shoot his portrait. Each and every interview (portrait of the artist, audio file of the discussion and short film of the window view) will be shown on my blog.
Traveling will be an important part of my project expenses, as I want to travel not only in Europe, where I live, but all around the world. The second most important resource I will need are contacts : getting in touch with artists living (or not) in their country of origin is tantamount to my project.
I will travel all around the world to meet with artists of all horizons and nationalities.
YOUR SUPPORT IS WANTED : if you know an artist who would be interested, or if you are an artist yourself and would like to be interviewed by me, please contact me !
